Kevin Terraciano is Professor of Latin American history at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Director of the UCLA Latin American Institute. He specializes in the Colonial period (16th through 18th centuries), especially the cultures, languages, and writings of Mesoamerica. He is the author of The Mixtecs of Colonial Oaxaca, recently translated into Spanish by El Fondo de Cultura Económica, and many other publicatons. He has won several awards for his writing, teaching, and graduate mentoring. He is currently working on the translation and analysis of a 16th-century Nahuatl-language manuscript called the "Codex Sierra"; the history of a Mixtec palace in Oaxaca called "la Casa de la Cacica"; the translation and analysis of Colonial Zapotec-language writings from the Valley of Oaxaca; and a history of images related to the Conquest of Mexico.

He is on leave from UCLA in 2014-15 as a scholar at the Getty Research Institute.
