Maya Vase
The Maya Vase Research Project is a collaboration between LACMA’s Conservation Center and the Program in the Art of the Ancient Americas. We chose fifteen vessels for study, limiting the number so we could focus intensively on each.
We conducted technical imaging including high-resolution digital rollout photography, infrared and ultraviolet imaging, microphotography, and x-radiography. These technologies allow us to see these objects in new ways—to literally see inside the vessels; they also provide a roadmap for subsequent scientific analysis.
Here we publish new visible light still and rollout photographs, produced by conservation photographer Yosi Pozeilov. To see the objects and examples of the project’s discoveries, visit our exhibition at LACMA.
